S.H. Dwight letter, 1862.

The S.H. Dwight letter was written by S.H. Dwight to his sons on July 23, 1862. Dwight refers to previous correspondence received from the sons relating their battle experiences in the Civil War, and Dwight thanks God for their miraculous escape from death in battle. Their father updates them on the status of their livestock, the family's crops, friends, and family. The names of the sons do not appear on the letter, but their names may have been Sereno H. Dwight, Thomas J. Dwight, or John T. Dwight. There appears to be a separate note to William Walters written in the middle of the second page.

S.H. Dwight and his wife, Rhody lived in Taylor County, Georgia in 1862. Dwight apparently had two or more sons fighting together in the Civil War. Civil War rosters list Sereno H. Dwight serving with the GA 27th Infantry, Company F, and the GA 45th Infantry, Company E. In addition, there is a Thomas J. Dwight serving in the GA 27th Infantry, Company F and a John T.
